After the adventure

We went to the vet yesterday and I am happy to report Booth is doing very well! No signs of parasites, so he much have been a picky eater on his adventure. He did pick up a few ticks and we will be monitoring him for tick borne illnesses over the next few months.

We got the microchip and the little guy didn't even flinch!

Booth went on his first walk with DogCentric walker, Jessi, Monday. She reported that he did a great job! Jessi walked him with two leashes for good measure, and it appears he is not interested in running anymore.

Thank you, Georgetown Patch

Thank you, Georgetown Patch and Shaun!

Booth is a celebrity around Glover Park and beyond

Booth is a celebrity! Not only is he being recognized right and left in our neighborhood, he is on other blogs! http://lostdogsfound.blogspot.com/2013/03/booth-sheltie.html

Thanks, Nancy, for all your help!

What's next?

Microchips and GPS collars all around to celebrate. And, a quick trip to the vet to see what Booth had been eating while he was out.

Booth FOUND!

At 7am this morning, Matt called me after seeing one of the flyers to say he spotted a dog that looked like Booth in the Mt Zion cemetery on 27th and Q Streets NW. I immediately went down with Derby to check it out. We walked the cemetery perimeter for about 30 minutes, leaving scent strips and the fried chicken and kibble special salad. No sighting for me.

At 8:30am, my friend and I ran back down to the cemetery meeting another friend, John M, who came to look for Booth. We dropped more scent strips and more special salad. But, no sighting. Another stranger, Krishna, showed up and offered to continue to keep an eye out.

My friend, Andrea C, and I went for a run on the Mall with another friend, Katie M. At 10am, I started receiving phone calls. First, from a woman whose friend was at the cemetery and so was Booth. Then, a man called saying there was a dog at the cemetery that matched the flyer. And, a third call. All from the flyers!

I told him not to chase Booth, but just watch and try to keep him in the area. I was on my way!

Andrea, Katie, and I jumped into a cab at the Lincoln Memorial and told the cab driver all about it. Because I was out running, I didn't have any food. Andrea had Honeystringer gummy chews so I put them in the ziplock bag the special salad was in. Katie paid the cab, and I briskly walked toward the cemetery from Q Street NW.

When I got there, a number of people were gathered near the fence that separates the Mt Zion cemetery from Oak Hill Cemetery. THEY HAD CAUGHT BOOTH! With the help of their little dog, the group of awesome strangers had circled Booth and got him against a fence. One man stepped on his leash and that was it! We walked home and are now getting back into normal.

You would never know Booth had his little adventure as he pranced up Wisconsin Ave. There were a few people that recognized him and cheered! He is no worse for the wear, and I fear enjoyed his few days of adventure in Rock Creek Park.

Thank you to everyone that offered support, put up flyers, got the word out, sent tips, went searching for Booth, and just generally cared about this little guy. We will head to the vet next week to make sure everything is a-ok, and will be doing a good brushing this afternoon. Right now, he is wrestling with Derby, eating, and generally being a happy little dog.

THANKS, AGAIN!!!
Kristi, Booth, and Derby

No luck :(

No luck... Andrea C and I are headed back down in a few minutes to run through and take more food.

Paula A and John M are posting flyers at 11am.

Myself and others are posting at 3pm.

Fingers (and paws) crossed!

Saturday Booth Patrol

Please join us Saturday, March 9 at Rose Park (26th Street NW and P Street NW) to hang more flyers around the last sighting area and get the word out to FIND BOOTH. The flyers are working!

If you have packing/duct tape or a staple gun that would be a tremendous help! We will plan to canvass the area in and around Rose Park, Oak Hill, and Dupont Circle.

If you plan to come, please feel free to email or text me!

The flyers are working!

I have been getting calls today... some were false alarms, but two were confirmed sightings. One from Tuesday night along Massachusetts Ave NW and the other from this morning... which, quite honestly, made my day! I could not tell you how thrilled I was to hear Amy tell me she spotted Booth in Rock Creek Park. My whole family was elated!

We had another busy afternoon. I feel like this is so overwhelming at times, but the call from Amy made it worthwhile a million times over. We just got back in from working to find Booth. Derby, Andrea C, Dena O, Deb V, and myself all covered area around Rose Park with flyers.

Christy R and Pauline H also did some searching along with so many others hitting the trail to try and spot Booth.

We hung hundreds of flyers, talk to quite a few folks. In addition, Derby and I went along the path to leave scent strips, food, and lots of Derby fur for Booth to find tonight.

I also bought some fried chicken and made a little Booth salad with kibble to take by the trail tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, we are heading out again! If you would like to join us, meet at Rose Park (26th St NW and P St NW) at 3pm to post flyers and get the word out. We need to canvass the entire Dupont to Georgetown area. I will post details.

Thank you all and goodnight,
Kristi and Derby

Didn't spot him, but trying again

I, along with 5 others went over to Rock Creek Park at Q Street for about 2.5 hours.

We did not spot him, but I feel so positive that he was seen.

Heading out tonight to post flyers and leave scent strips (from my bed sheet) in that area. If you want to help, please meet at Rose Park on P Street in Dupont at 5:30pm. Feel free to email or call me.

NEW SIGHTING -- Right Now

WE HAVE A SIGHTING!!!! RIGHT NOW!

Booth was seen in Rock Creek Park on the path near 27th and Q Streets! He is heading south on the path toward P Street Bridge. If anyone is close by, please take treats and try to coax him to come to you!

THANK YOU AMY FOR PHONING ME!

A way to help

As you might imagine, I am incredibly overwhelmed by all that still needs to be done.  My mom took on the task of calling all the veterinarians in DC, friends are visiting shelters (but I could use more help monitoring the shelters), people are looking when they are out near the parks, etc. Please continue to offer help! If you have ideas, I am open.

One thing that seems to be easy for most is posting flyers. I have received many gracious offers from strangers and friends to post flyers around their neighborhoods. This means so much!

If you have time and would like to post Booth's flyer around DC, I am including a link below to the poster. Here's what it looks like, and the link to pick up your own copy is below.

Another story about Booth

Thank you Borderstan for posting a story about Booth today:

And, Nina for suggesting to contact them!

Another thank you...

I woke up this morning and was so sad I didn't thank Alexis Chappell. Alexis immediately went out to look for Booth Tuesday night. She managed to stop a police officer who then went to Friendship Animal Hospital to make copies of Booth's photo to pass out.

Alexis and Fozzie (her dog) also walked Wednesday looking and calling for Booth as well as helping me find places to call and let them know Booth was out there. THANK YOU ALEXIS!!!

Friends and Strangers

So many people have been offering to help! I am truly blessed and feel so positive we will find Booth.

In addition to my street team this afternoon, Rebecca Ellis and Gina Lohr both volunteered to bike around Rock Creek Park after work today to see if they could get a spot on Booth! Thanks, ladies!

I should also thank John McCarthy, Christy Riccardi, Andrea Carroll, Niki Irish for springing in action Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Amazing friends!

And, most importantly, the strangers who have emailed advice, called to say they are looking, and have taken time out of their busy schedules to post flyers or look for Booth. THANK YOU!!!

Back from canvassing

Super tired, but feeling positive thanks to everyone's help!

Huge thanks to Paula Arevalo, Jenny Hutcherson, Pauline Hutcherson, Nina and Josh, Claire, Amanda, Nikki Elston, James Bullock, Megan, Ellen Heier, Veronica Morales for coming out to help me.

We put out nearly 500 flyers in and around Glover Park, Burleith, Cathedral Heights, Observatory Circle and Embassy Row. Fingers crossed!

Heading out to canvass and look for Booth

Derby and others are meeting at 5:30pm to go look for Booth and let people know he is missed. If you can make it, even if it is later, just give me a call or emails.

Booth's "Brother" Misses Him

Derby is my other sheltie, and he misses Booth terribly. He has not been eating and not interested in playing. Please help us bring Booth home!

Getting the word out!

Thanks to the kind people who have been helping me generate awareness of Booth.

Booth is Missing!

At 7pm, March 5, 2013, Booth bolted while on a walk in our Glover Park neighborhood. I pursued him for about 2 miles in circles before losing sight of him a New Mexico Ave NW and 42nd St NW. I managed to stay about half a block behind him, then other people started helping me. Unfortunately, they chased him and he ran faster.

Sightings by others on March 5, 2013: At 7:30pm, someone spotted him on Foxhall at 7:30pm running toward Georgetown. Then, a few other people reported him at Cathedral and New Mexico Ave NW at 8pm. There was also a report that he may have been on Klingle and/or 44th Street in that area. Finally, someone said they spotted a black dog at 8:30pm or so on Observatory and Massachusetts Ave NW.

I have only had Booth for 2 weeks. He came from Kentucky, so he is very new to the areas. Booth is a tri color Sheltie, black with tan and white markings. He has a broken white collar on his right shoulder.

Booth is about 14 inches tall and 17 pounds. He was wearing a leash and harness! He did not have tags or a microchip.
Booth is 2 years old and very timid. He will run from you, so you have to approach very slowly. DO NOT CHASE! The best way to get him to come is by kneeling down and lightly tapping your hand to your leg.

If you see Booth, DO NOT CHASE! Contact 859-608-8002 or email kristi.martinATgmail.com immediately. Spread the word to help find Booth!
